Is EMDR or Brainspotting Right for You?

They may be helpful if you:

  • Feel stuck even after years of talk therapy

  • Experience anxiety, overwhelm, or nervous system dysregulation

  • Notice emotional responses that feel bigger than the situation

  • Have experienced trauma or chronic stress

  • Struggle to put certain experiences into words

  • Want a therapy approach that works with the brain and body together

If you are curious about EMDR or Brainspotting, we can explore whether this approach feels like a good fit for your goals and your healing process.

EMDR

EMDR is a structured approach that helps the brain process experiences that still affect you today. It begins with a thorough history to understand what has happened, what is bringing you to therapy, and the patterns and beliefs connected to your current struggles. From there, we create a clear roadmap so we know what to focus on and where to begin.

Before we start processing, we build tools to help you feel grounded and steady when emotions become intense. During processing, we use specific back-and-forth eye movements and/or hand movements to help your brain work through experiences that still feel stuck or overwhelming. This step-by-step approach allows us to be focused and intentional about what we are working on and why.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a focused, body-based therapy that helps identify, process, and release trauma and emotional stress stored in the brain and nervous system. It developed out of EMDR and offers a more gentle, intuitive way of accessing and healing from difficult experiences.

Rather than retelling or reliving your story, we locate a point in your visual field that connects to where an experience may be held in your body. From there, we stay present while your brain and nervous system begin to process.
